Unity. Otherwise defined as the state of being joined as a whole.
Though the whole month of October 2019 is proving to be making Lebanese history, the 11th day of the Revolution is one for the books.
Patriotism is a prerequisite for unity. It could be argued that the Lebanese population was unable to unite in the past because instead of being passionate about their country, people were passionate about individual political parties & sectarian leaders, therefore dividing the country into different segments. Without Patriotism, the people could not achieve unity as the latter demands only one clear vision instead of several different identities.
As people cast away sectarian divides, patriotism has flourished across the country for the first time in a while as citizens come together to identify as one thing only: Lebanese. To convey this, on Sunday October 27th, Portestors formed a human chain across the whole of Lebanon.
The chain ran
105 miles long, passing through Beirut, all the way to Tripoli and Tyre. The main message of this initiative: to show a
united Lebanon devoid of any sectarian influence. This required an enormous amount of organization and teamwork from the population, who except for a few volunteers, did not have much aid in organizing such a huge event. Throughout the day, people held hands with friends, family & strangers across the country, while others drove to different regions to fill voids in areas where there were not enough people to close gaps. By
4:00 PM, the chain was complete.
