Is offering condolences on its own enough?

  • Labour Minister Lamia Yammine offered her condolences to the Ghanaian embassy in Lebanon on Wednesday, regarding the suspected suicide of 23-year-old Ghanaian domestic worker, Faustina Tay, on March 14. The Labour Ministry strongly condemned the incident and the case has been referred to the judiciary.

COVID-19 Update

  • 16 new cases, 479 cases, 43 recoveries, 14 deaths
  • As hunger protests continue to sweep through Tripoli and shoppers rush to stock up basic commodities during the coronavirus outbreak, food prices are increasing. The Consumers' Association stated that prices of food items for households' daily consumption rose by approximately 58.43% since October 2019 and by 13.7% since February 2020. The association called on the parliament to abolish all monopolies. Zouhair Berro, head of Consumer Lebanon, told The Daily Star that Lebanon has a monopolistic economic system and that it is "probably the only country in the world that has exclusive dealership."
